About Us

The reason for the establishment of the church is to be found in the Holy Scriptures, because we understand that the church is God’s vehicle for propagating the truths concerning spiritual things; it is the channel through which the Holy Spirit operates to extend the kingdom of God, and to edify the saints in the Word of God; it is in the church where, the offices and the good services of saints are established.

Our Vision

To Win People,
To Build Believers
& To Send Workers.

Our Mission

Glorify the Living God, proclaim His kingdom, improve lives and promote fellowship of church members.

Our History

Apostolic Faith Church has its roots back in the days of the struggle for independence in Kenya. It started in Kenya as a mission from South Africa that worked in the farms of Eldoret highlands, but left the country immediately after independence in 1963. The missionary body from South Africa was registered in Kenya as Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa in 1957. The church was later disbanded around 1963 and its registration cancelled in 1967. Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa had also pioneered work in the city of Nairobi, Ngong Town, and Thogoto, in Kikuyu.

It is largely believed that the missionaries deserted their settlement and mission work in Kenya because of political pressure emanating from International reaction against then apartheid policy of government in South Africa. Notably, they had not raised local pastors to take over their mission endeavors. We restored our links with Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa after the independence of their country in 1994.

We continued serving God in the name of Apostolic Faith of Africa, with semi- indigenous and autonomous approach. The name was registered on February 4, 1963. The national elections were conducted on July 6, 1975 and Bishop Musa Njuguna was elected into the office of the General Overseer. The church constitution was updated and its organizational structure clearly set out. The name of the church was changed from Apostolic Faith of Africa to Apostolic Faith Church on September 4, 1975.

Bishop Musa Njuguna led the church until 1986 when Bishop David Ng’ang’a Mungai took over as the General Overseer. The latter would then vacate office in 2005 after 9 years at the helm. Meanwhile, Bishop Abraham Kamau Gitu took over in 2007 and later exited in 2009. During his tenure as General Overseer, Njoro Bible College was established with the assistance of African missions from Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa.

Bishop Peter Gatimu would then ascend into the office of the General Overseer in 2010 – a team of national officials and councils in tow. He led the church in actualizing the vision of building the Apostolic Faith Church National Covenant Conference Centre in Kikopey, Gilgil (on Nairobi-Nakuru highway). This was achieved through COVENANT GIVING, being a deep godly revelation and walk in life – where all members and leaders obeyed God and became prosperous.

This centre is to accommodate 10,000 participants, both in conferencing and boarding facilities. Over and above, there were further amendments in the church constitution that touch on the retirement fund for Pastors and full-time workers, departments, elaborate administration and leadership structures and a roadmap for enhanced church growth. This involved numerical, geographical and spiritual church growth program with practical management and leadership process.

Apostolic Faith Church is growing steadily. It has become a powerful, contemporary Pentecostal Church attested by all and sundry through mega projects and especially considering what the Lord is doing in empowering church members, Pastors and Overseers. The church has survived a myriad of challenges with unshaken foundation of sanctification, unity, power of the Holy Spirit, the fear of the Lord and desire for excellence. In our endeavour to please God, we continually become strong in Him and for Him.

Over the years, Apostolic Faith Church has been established on the doctrines and practices that founded the church in the great Azusa street revival, Los Angeles, California, USA in 1906. These doctrines and practices oscillate around true repentance, justification, sanctification, baptism in the Holy Spirit, fellowship of the Holy Spirit, commitment to deep prayers, holiness, evangelism and discipleship. Meanwhile, God continues to confirm His word through signs, supernatural gifts and the demonstration of five-fold ministries.

The Church has the potential to experience a similar revival as that of Azusa street, Los Angeles, led by Pastor William J. Seymour in 1906. God is willing to send revival similar to that of the Apostolic Faith Mission in South Africa led by Rev John Graham Lake in 1908. The foundation is intact and the LORD is willing to confirm His word in a more glorious way. We can sense the looming reawakening right this minute!
